How to Fix Subtitle Audio Desync in VLC and Media Players

Use a constant subtitle delay when dialogue is consistently early or late.

Identify a constant subtitle audio delay

Play a clear dialogue scene in VLC and compare the spoken words with the subtitle appearance. If every line is early or late by approximately the same amount, the problem is a constant offset rather than framerate drift.

Measure the delay in VLC

Use VLC's subtitle delay controls to estimate the correction. Positive seconds delay subtitles; negative seconds move them earlier. Test the value in several scenes before applying it to the whole SRT track.

Create a corrected SRT file

Open the subtitle time shifter, choose the original UTF-8 SRT file, enter the measured offset, and download the corrected copy. The file stays in browser memory throughout the process.
